Lighthouse Host Position Description

JOB TITLE: Lighthouse Hosts #1

DURATION: This position will be filled from April thru October assigned on a monthly basis.

POSITION RESPONSIBLITIES (2 people):

Drive to Cape Meares Lighthouse, approximately 10 miles North of Cape Lookout. Primary duties will include welcoming guests, answering visitor questions, sharing the Cape Meares Lighthouse story, staffing the gift shop, making change, informing visitors of lighthouse rules, sweeping, dusting, and cleaning lighthouse shop as needed. Restock inventory as needed from storage cabinets and drawers. Record visitor count on tally meter. Report maintenance issues and any other problems or emergencies. Complete incident reports as needed. Promptly close the lighthouse at four o’clock.

JOB REQUIREMENTS- SKILLS/TRAINING REQUIRED:

Excellent customer service skills, the ability and desire to communicate with and assist visitors of all ages and backgrounds. This job requires some stooping, bending, limited lifting, stair climbing, and walking. Hosts should be capable of climbing the 25 stairs to the lighthouse tower. Due to the volume of visitors at the lighthouse, breaks may be limited. A positive attitude is a must!

ORIENTATION/TRAINING PROVIDED:

Hosts will be given Cape Meares Lighthouse interpretation training, an orientation to the park, and information about the local community by park staff. Friends of Cape Meares will provide gift shop training.

TOOLS OR EQUIPMENT USED: Training in use and care of equipment will be provided. Equipment will include cash register, credit card machine, calculator, and basic cleaning supplies. Books on lighthouse history will be available to borrow.

SITE AMENITIES: Site D2. Site will have electric, water, and sewer hookups. Roomy for slide outs and awnings. It is capable of receiving satellite reception. There is a laundry room on site for host use.

SCHEDULE:

The schedule will alternate between a three day/four day week. Lighthouse Hosts #1 alternate working a Sunday-Wednesday week and a Sunday-Tuesday week. Hosts are expected to arrive just prior to lighthouse opening at 11am and may leave when closing duties are completed after 4pm. A full month calendar will be provided with your confirmation packet.
